how do i get a quote online for auto insurance? (but i only want half coverage and i live in canada?

You get a quote by finding an independent agent, giving him your information, and letting his search his data base for a good match for you.

But, there is no such thing as "half coverage".

I have no idea what "half coverage" means, and I am a retired insurance broker with many years experience.
Please post which province you live in, as what is available on-line, and where you look for it, is not the same in every jurisdiction.

So it sounds like you are asking for liability coverage only, no coverage on your own car. Whether that is even available is till dependent on where you live. In Manitoba for instance, it can’t be split off, your minimum policy is $200,000 tpl, $500 deductible comprehensive/collision/upset, and Personal Injury Protection Plan, injury claims are all no-fault settlement.

So, I ask again, where do you live? Canada is a huge country.
